Chercos, a unique village in the Sierra de los Filabres which gives its name to the new settlement of the locality which began to form from 1940 onwards and which is also known as Chercos Nuevo. The old settlement known as Chercos Viejo is about 3 kilometres away and can be reached by the river along an old cobbled path. It can also be reached by road.
The ancient settlement has Moorish origins, literally perched on a rocky mountain, with winding, steeply sloping streets. You should take the opportunity to wander through the unusual narrow streets of Chercos and visit its points of interest such as the viewpoint, the old cemetery or the remains of a small Arab fortress from the Middle Ages. On leaving Chercos Viejo we must visit the Piedra Labrá, a prehistoric archaeological-monumental site. It is a group of rocks full of cave engravings and other more recent ones that have been superimposed on top of each other.
If you visit this municipality and want to know what to see and do in it, we have selected on this page a series of suggestions to make your stay easier and more interesting.
We hope you enjoy it.
