Situated in the Sierra de los Filabres, very close to the Sierra de Macael, Lijar has several curious facts in its history. In 1883 the town council agreed to declare war on France in response to the grievances received by King Alfonso XII on his visit to Paris. 100 years later (1983) the Peace Treaty was signed. 400 years earlier, in 1488, the Moors of Lijar revolted as soon as King Ferdinand left the kingdom of Vera and marched to Murcia. With the capitulations of Purchena the Moors of Lijar were pardoned.
Lijar has a singular attraction for the visitor, the Castle located at the top of the village, the Castle quarter, its winding streets, the Parish Church (XVII century), the Hermitage of the Virgen de Fátima, the Lavadero, the Charcón, the cobbled road, the viewpoint or the river of Lijar itself are charming places that you should not miss on your visit to this beautiful village.
