The Sanctuary of the Virgen el Saliente of Albox, built in the 18th century, is the most important architectural jewel in the municipality, it was also declared a historical-artistic monument. The town still has one of the oldest active pottery workshops in the province of Almería, “Alfarería Los Puntas”, located on Calle San Leonardo, with Arab kilns with 300 years of history, named by the Ministry of Tourism as “Artisan Point of Interest in Andalusia”.

For lovers of hiking and outdoor excursions, routes on foot or by bicycle can be organised starting from Albox. The most attractive are from Albox to Los Vélez via the Saliente and from Velez Rubio to Oria. On the latter route there are routes which are very suitable for cycling.

Craftsmen’s Route

The craftsmanship of the area is basically centred on marble, above all in localities such as Fines, Olula del Río and Macael, but there are also important exponents of ceramics, such as the pottery workshop of Los Puntas, in Albox, and the wood cultivated for years by Pedro Gilabert, whose work has merited a whole museum in Arboleas. The route starts in Arboleas, a municipality which can be reached from the Autovía del Mediterráneo, at the exit towards Purchena, taking the Huércal Overa Baza road.

A town situated in the middle basin of the river Almanzora, it is surrounded by a rich agricultural environment. The most important monuments are the Parish Church of Santa María (18th century); the Hermitage of San Antonio, the oldest building in the town; the Church of La Concepción, with some striking paintings by the artist Andrés Ibañez; stately homes; etc.
