Friday

Arrival Friday afternoon. Accommodation in Olula or Macael: Hotel Jardines la Tejera. Hotel 08
Visit the town of Olula del Rio. San Sebastián Church. Walk the streets. Later you can go shopping.

There are many places in Olula for dinner or tapas, we recommend some. Terra Café, Jardines la Tejera Restaurant, Asador el Encuentro, Asador la Bodega or Mesón de Huitar.

Saturday

If you come, you must search for “Tierra del Mármol” experience with the guide of the Marble Interpretation Center, but do it in advance (call here). If you go on your own, the first thing you have to do is go to the Marble Interpretation Center. After seeing the center, we recommend to take a tour around the town with its steep streets. You should visit the Church of the Virgen del Rosario, the church’s square, whith a replica of the Fountain of the Lions of the Alhambra, the largest mortar in the world and the Mirador de la Virgen del Rosario, that has some beautiful views of the town.

Then you have to take the car and you can see two viewpoints, the quarries that have a circular shape and especially the Cosentino, where you can see the largest quarry in this mountain.

You can eat at Las Canteras School RestaurantLas Piscinas de Macael Restaurant or at any of Olula’s establishments.

In the afternoon visit the Casa Ibáñez Museum where you can see the largest collection of contemporary art in Andalusia with works by Goya, Soroya, Antonio López, Capuleto, Zuloaga, etc. and Andrés García Ibáñez himself, creator of the museum. We recommend doing the guided tour, since you will see the museum in another way. Next to the museum is the Pérez Siquier Center, the first museum of photography dedicated to a single artist -Carlos Pérez Siquier- from Almería and a national photography prize. In the same room you can admire the sculpture of Antonio López “Mujer del Almanzora“, an 8 meter high carving made in Macael marble that represents a tribute to the women of the earth. Antonio López has many artistic awards including the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts.

After the visit to the museum we propose a relaxing walk along the Via Verde de Olula or Via Verde de Fines. The start of the Via Verde in both directions you have in front of the Hotel Jardines la Tejera, there you can leave the car and go both ways, if you cross the walkway you will go towards ends that is very close and in the opposite direction you will see different views of Olula del Río. For dinner you can do it in Olula del Río in Fines: Agora.

Sunday

On Sunday morning you can take a walk around the surrounding towns such as Purchena or Laroya. We suggest you visit the Fines market. It is the largest market in the region you can find on a Sunday, and there you will find almost everything. You can have some “churros” for breakfast, try clothes, buy homemade cold meats, cheeses, products from the neighbors’ garden, fruit, etc.

You can end your getaway with a walk through the end and eating in one of the restaurants in Macael, Olula or Fines.

If you go with children we recommend Asador el Encuentro, it has a small inflatable castle inside the restaurant, it is covered in a nave. It is ideal for children to have fun and adults can enjoy better food.
