Interpreted visit to the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora del Buen Retiro de los Desamparados del Saliente, built in the 18th century, is one of the most important pilgrimage centres in southeastern Spain and is located in the municipality of Albox (Almería).

It houses the well-known Virgen del Saliente, an 18th-century image that enjoys great popular devotion in the surrounding areas, both in the province of Almería and in neighbouring regions. The Sanctuary was declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest in 1992 and is one of the largest monasteries in Eastern Andalusia.

The temple was built over the ancient hermitage erected in the prehistoric settlement of Monterroel, a privileged enclave for the first human settlements, due to its location on the historical route that led from the region of Los Vélez to the Almanzora Valley.

The visit will be interpreted by staff from the Diocesan Sanctuary of El Saliente and will include a tour of some of the Sanctuary’s rooms as well as the chapel where the Virgin of El Saliente can be seen.
