Cantoria will celebrate the 2026 wheelbarrow race on 16 and 17 January with extensive security measures in place.

On Friday 16 and Saturday 17 January, the municipality of Cantoria will celebrate the 2026 wheelbarrow race, one of the town’s most deeply rooted traditions, in honour of San Antón, with a programme combining religious events, activities and fireworks displays.

To ensure the smooth running of the celebration, extensive safety and prevention measures have been put in place, involving the fire prevention service of the Firefighters’ Consortium, Civil Protection, the Civil Guard, the Local Police and a mobile intensive care unit, as well as direct supervision by the directors of the San Antón and San Cayetano Cultural Association of Wheelbarrow Pushers.

According to data provided by the organisation, around 1,800 kilos of gunpowder will be used in this edition, an amount equivalent to some 5,000 dozen wheelbarrows, which shows the magnitude of the event.
