ALBOX IS ONCE AGAIN CYCLING UNDER THE STARS WITH THE ‘GINÉS PÉREZ MATEOS’ MEMORIAL AT ITS 16TH ANNUAL ALBOX-EL SALIENTE-ALBOX NIGHT-TIME MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE 2026.
Next Friday, 25 September, Albox will once again host one of its most special sporting events: the 16th Albox-El Saliente-Albox Night-Time Mountain Bike Ride, the “Ginés Pérez Mateos” Memorial 2026.
Organised by the Albox Town Council’s Sports Department, in collaboration with Albox Bike, this popular, fun and charitable event will bring together cycling enthusiasts from Albox and various other towns across the province.
❤️ A CHARITY RIDE
The entry fee is 10 euros per participant, of which 5 euros will be donated to research into retinitis pigmentosa, in collaboration with the Andalusian Association for Retinitis Pigmentosa.
📍 STARTING POINT: Plaza de San Francisco
🕘 TIME: 9.00 pm
📝 REGISTRATION: from 7.00 pm at the Plaza de San Francisco
🚴 DISTANCE: approximately 41.5 kilometres, there and back
COMMEMORATIVE T-SHIRT AND PRIZES:
All participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt for this year’s event and, at the end of the race, will be able to enjoy food, the prize-giving ceremony, gifts and plenty of surprises.
Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in the open category, as well as special prizes for:
🥇 1st OVERALL MEN: A shoulder of ham
🥇 1st OVERALL WOMEN: A shoulder of ham
🥇 1st OVERALL JUNIOR: Shoulder of ham
⛰️ The competitive stage will begin on the ascent of the Cuesta de la Virgen, covering a distance of 2.2 kilometres with an elevation gain of 210 metres.
💧 During the route, at Las Pocicas, next to the Balsa Santa Bárbara, there will be a technical refreshment stop.
