The Mine of the Espejuelo located in the North slope of the hill of Limaria, next to the urban nucleus of the Higuerales, is an important deposit of ‘lapis specularis’ or eyeglasses, dated from the Roman time.

The intervention in the mine, inscribed as an Asset of Cultural Interest in the General Catalog of the Andalusian Historical Heritage has allowed to investigate the morphology of the mine and the extension of its galleries to discover its full potential and put it in context with other deposits of eyeglasses of the Roman Empire that exist in Europe, with the possibility of making it visitable for citizenship according to a suitable musealization project.
